Rainy Day Kid Activities – Hilton Head Island

We all hope for perfect weather when we are on vacation. As we all know, the weather does what it wants and a rainy day can happen. Don’t let that spoil your day though! There are several rainy day kid activities on Hilton Head that are affordable and sure to keep the kids and us parents happy.

Hilton Head has so much to offer besides the beach, golf courses, tennis courts, and pools. When rain invades the outside activities, there is a great place called The Sandbox where the kids can burn off some energy and learn with hands on activities. These activities spark young imaginations and give them the opportunity to enjoy their day despite the rain.

Activities at The Sandbox include building in a house with large legos, flying an imaginative plane complete with uniforms, puppet theaters, light tables, lego building tables, special areas for toddlers to play, sandbox table, art and music room, rock climbing unit, pretend bank, and a mock-up of a ship for imaginative play! There is sure to be fun for all aged children toddler to age 10. The Sandbox is affordable with admission at $6 per person, children under age 1 are free. Check out more information The Sandbox!

If you want to create a custom souvenir with your little artist, you can head over to The Art Cafe to paint your own ceramic items. This is a great activity if the rainy day happens in the early part of your stay (so you can pick up your completed items). This is a paint your own piece setup that allows children and adults to create a unique souvenir to remember their fantastic vacation in Hilton Head. Finally, the Coastal Discovery Museum will teach you about the history and culture of the Lowcountry. This museum was opened in 2007 and sits on 68 acres. There are exhibits on display as well as a Kid Zone and Scavenger Hunt. The Coastal Discovery Museum also provides information on the Sea Turtles that nest on the beaches of Hilton Head. During the summer months, they have turtle talks and walks in the evenings. The turtle talks/walks are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and children must be 4 years or older to participate.
